trying to empathize pantheistically with the shivering and coagulating of blood in nature, in trees, in animals, in the air.

We were all animals once, before we became "civilized", or grew up - whatever. This music is in honor of that.
Also there was a general subtext during the composing process - of the prickly side of nature. The cactus, the cashew, snails, slugs and bugs - each possess a primitive beauty accented by the very slight element of danger or at least repugnance. Think of your cat. Cuddly is she not? Laying by the fire? A killer - her dreams are of dead mice and birds.
So nature is gentle and pretty and giving - yes. And also dangerous and ugly and taketh away.
And I'm still part of it. As Neil deGrasse Tyson said, "the universe itself is within us".
