My inspiration for these compositions is a few sentences in Latin, written by the monk Volmarus to the famous medieval abbess Hildegard of Bingen: "Ubi tunc vox inauditae melodiae? Et vox inauditae linguae?" he asks. "Whence the voice of the unheard melody? And the voice of the unheard language?" That Hildegard had a secret language, Lingua Ignota, is well known today. But unheard melodies? That is a tantalizing idea. Polymath Saint Hildegard (1098–1179) was a mystic, a scientist, and a remarkable composer. She was also, in modern parlance, a "channeler" , and even had out-of-body experiences. I wonder what melodies she may have heard during one of her apocalyptic visions, or moments of divine bliss. These are my imaginings.

Music is a hidden language that speaks directly to the subconscious. It communicates with our inner selves via tones, rhythms, timbre, and dynamics. With or without words, it unlocks our hearts and heals us. Music itself is the Lingua Ignota.
