A Dream 03:53
Once a dream did weave a shade, O'er my Angel-guarded bed, That an Emmet lost it's way Where on grass methought I lay. Troubled wilderd and forlorn Dark benighted travel-worn, Over many a tangled spray All heart-broke I heard her say. O my children! do they cry Do they hear their father sigh. Now they look abroad to see, Now return and weep for me. Pitying I dropp'd a tear: But I saw a glow-worm near: Who replied. What wailing wight Calls the watchman of the night. I am set to light the ground, While the beetle goes his round: Follow now the beetles hum, Little wanderer hie thee home.

Ah Sun-flower! weary of time, Who countest the steps of the Sun: Seeking after that sweet golden clime Where the travellers journey is done. Where the Youth pined away with desire, And the pale Virgin shrouded in snow: Arise from their graves and aspire, Where my Sun-flower wishes to go.

about

Once a dream did weave a shade, o'er my angel-guarded bed.

Once I found a volume of the complete poetry and prose of William Blake at a rummage sale. A nickel well spent, I took it home where it rested nearby for me to occasionally pick up and find a passage at random.
From angels to ants his prose seems to encompass all of creation, great and small.
I'm fascinated by the fact that the same artist who painted a brilliant Lucifer, so full of light and beauty - and dangerously evil, could also pen a charming whimsical poem about a poor little ant, wandering lost.
Over time my book became festooned with tiny bookmarks at passages I liked. And likewise I collected musical sketches, melodies and ideas that came to me. This album is the result.
